Senior Controls Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY
Provide control engineering leadership relative to technical guidance, programming, and troubleshooting over multiple projects and assisting other team members with technical questions and issues. Lead a team of controls engineers to realize the architecture vision and performance targets of a project.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review sales, time and material budget, and engineering information with appropriate project team members. Provide feedback and suggest solutions when requested by the Applications group.
- Using input from sales estimate, production requirements, and customer requirements, work collaboratively with project team members to define suitable system architectures for custom automation equipment.
- Lead multiple team members on each project to assign tasks and make sure the project scope and architecture are followed.
- Work collaboratively with department members to create software applications and configuration files for all programmable devices within the architecture.
- Understand and execute all applicable internal processes, especially those that relate to the quality management system.
- When required, travel to customer’s facility for install and field service.
- Maintain a customer-oriented outlook within the project commercial outline.
- Assist shop personnel in checking or trouble shooting equipment as required.
- Act as a senior technical resource to controls and engineering teams. Provide direction for developing innovative & state-of-the-art approaches and methods.
- May be asked to attend unrelated internal technical reviews to provide guidance in lieu of department manager.
- Assist in training of other controls teams members with or in lieu of department manager. Assist with department team building as requested.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 4-year technical degree and 5-7 years of automation engineering related experience.
- Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA standards.
- Extensive Experience in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley), HMI programming (Allen-Bradley), vision programming (Cognex, Keyence), Robotics Programming (Epson, Fanuc)
- Broad experience with various hardware and processes associated with Automation Technology
REQUIRED PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- For up to 12 hours, sit, stand, walk on shop floor
- Push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor
- Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
- Exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or
- Exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Extensive knowledge of electrical equipment, components, instruments, and systems, including their design, installation, testing, uses, repair, or maintenance
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
- Advanced Microsoft 365 experience
