Controls Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

Work collaboratively to program, troubleshoot, and assist with startup of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic power and control systems for specialized automation machines.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review sales, time and material budget, and engineering information with appropriate project team members.
  • Using input from sales estimate, production requirements, and customer requirements, work collaboratively with project team members to define suitable system architectures for custom automation equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with department members to create software applications and configuration files for all programmable devices within the architecture.
  • When required, travel to customer’s facility for install and field service.
  • Assist shop personnel in checking or trouble shooting equipment as required.
  • Understand, execute, and work to improve applicable processes, including these related to the Quality Management System.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 4-year technical degree and / or 2-3 years of automation engineering related experience
  • Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA standards
  • Experience in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley), HMI programming (Allen-Bradley), vision programming (Cognex, Keyence), robotics programming (Epson, Fanuc)

REQUIRED PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Sit, stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor
  • Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
  • Exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or
  • Exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Occasional prolonged periods of sitting with the ability to stand and walk when needed

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of electrical equipment, components, instruments, and systems, including their design, installation, testing, uses, repair, or maintenance
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
  • Advanced Microsoft 365 experience
