Controls Designer

POSITION SUMMARY
Work collaboratively to design, troubleshoot, and assist with startup of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic power and control systems for specialized automation machines.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review sales, time and material budget, and engineering information with appropriate project team members.
- Using input from sales estimate, production requirements, and customer requirements, work collaboratively with project team members to define suitable system architectures for custom automation equipment.
- Work collaboratively with department members to assist with the creation of software applications and configuration files for all programmable devices within the architecture.
- Assist shop personnel in checking or trouble shooting equipment as required.
- Understand, execute, and work to improve applicable processes, including those related to the Quality Management System.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A good understanding of AutoCAD Electrical, including its reporting capabilities
- Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA standards
- 2-year EET or EE degree
REQUIRED PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Sit, stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor
- Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
- Exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or
- Exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Prolonged periods of sitting with the ability to stand and walk when needed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 4-year EET or EE degree and 3 years of progressive automation engineering related experience
- Familiarity with electrical safety circuits, PLC programming, operator interface configuration, motion control and robotic safety interfaces
- Advanced Microsoft 365 experience
- Knowledge of electrical equipment, components, instruments, and systems, including their design, installation, testing, uses, repair, or maintenance
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
